I’m a 1L and don’t want to take on too many commitments, can I still join TBLS?

Absolutely. TBLS has no hours or event attendance requirements. All we ask is that you follow RSVP and cancellation guidelines for the individual events. However, to participate in the TTSC, you must attend the required Practicums.

What is the Texas Transactional Skills Competition (TTSC)?

TTSC is TBLS’s moot court style transactional competition. It is open to all students, regardless of class level. It offers students the chance to gain valuable skills and real-world practical experience with transactional documents that will give them a head start in transactional law. Students have the opportunity to represent a fictional client by drafting a document and negotiating its terms. Those that do well will be invited to join one of TBLS’s traveling Texas Transactional Skills Program Traveling Teams and compete in one of several competitions across the nation.

I’m not sure if I want to do litigation or transactional, should I join TBLS?

This is actually a great reason to join TBLS. Many of our events are geared toward students who are unsure or simply don’t know much about transactional work. While we do have some more intense or advanced events for more focused students, many of our events will be beneficial and fun for all students.

What is the TBLS Business Law 101?
